Terrific Opportunity for a CEO at an Outstanding Behavioral Healthcare system
peponline.org

People Encouraging People is a person-centered community non-profit corporation providing value-based services in five counties along the Baltimore- Washington corridor.  People Encouraging People has been delivering life-transforming treatment, rehabilitation, and support services in traditionally underserved communities for 45 years.  These services, delivered to the area’s most vulnerable individuals including those who are homeless, range from mobile behavioral health services, rehabilitation for the deaf and blind, to residential and vocational ventures aimed at integrating clients into their communities. With a multitude of programs and services delivered from 6 distinct locations a dedicated staff of over 250 professionals, and 320 available beds owned and managed by PEP, this $28m+ Joint Commission Accredited non-profit corporation offers compassionate care to adults in need as well as their families.   The current CEO has been outstanding in serving PEP for more than 30 years and is looking forward to retirement and supporting her successor’s smooth transition into this leadership role.

People Encouraging People has a highly committed Board of Directors, Executive Team, and Staff, that is representative of the communities PEP serves.  People Encouraging People continues to break new ground by leveraging public partnerships, grants, and private contributions to expand its service capacity across Maryland.

The organization has grown significantly from its humble beginnings as a bargain outlet store but still subscribes to its original vision of identifying and cultivating its clients’ unique capabilities so that they can lead fulfilling lives.

The Position

The Chief Executive Officer has ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the People Encouraging People mission, vision, and values are reflected in its delivery of services. People Encouraging People is looking for a strong and innovative behavioral health leader to build upon the solid foundation of “compassionate care,'' that People Encouraging People has provided for the last 45 years. The new CEO will have the opportunity to grow the organization’s existing workforce and train the “next generation of leaders” in behavioral health while making a significant difference in the lives of those served by the organization.

With this in mind, our “ideal candidate” will have:

  • A Master's degree in business administration, public health, health policy, and/or a behavioral health field, preferred
  • Have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive senior leadership experience in a behavioral health setting
  • Prior experience working with a Board of Directors; non-profit setting preferred
  • A passion for serving similar clients to PEP, with special emphasis on individuals and families with complex needs and those experiencing health inequities
  • Demonstrated success at leading, managing, developing, and directing teams
  • Prior success collaborating and partnering with external organizations and institutions, including public and private entities and elected officials
  • Successful political advocacy experience at a local, regional, and state level
  • Experience directly working with or supporting the Behavioral Health Community and a commitment to serving individuals struggling with mental health, substance use, joblessness, or homelessness
  • Prior success building a diverse, inclusive workplace culture committed to intercultural competency and an inclusive leadership style that incorporates intergenerational understanding, zero tolerance for microaggressions, and awareness of power, privilege, and personal biases
  • Demonstrated prioritization of employee health, well-being, growth, and development
  • Leadership experience with operations, finance, quality and risk management, and human resources, within a complex healthcare/human service setting; preferably experience in a behavioral health, CMHC, FQHC, or CCBHC setting
  • Demonstrated data-driven decision making and use of data analytics in organizational management

We are looking for a Chief Executive Officer committed to making their home in central Maryland, known by many as “The Land of Pleasant Living.” This beautiful region has over ½ million residents who are drawn to the area’s quality of life on the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to its proximity to Baltimore. MD and Washington, D.C., this area’s vibrant communities, growing economies, great public and private schools and colleges, and diverse community organizations and activities make it an ideal place to raise a family. Housing options to match anyone’s desires –rural life with room for animals, neighborhoods in the suburbs or in the city, or waterfront properties on creeks, rivers, or the Bay.

For outdoor enthusiasts, you have easy access to over 500 miles of shoreline. The Chesapeake Bay area is known for boating, fishing, crabbing, water skiing, sailing, and swimming. For nature lovers, there are two state parks, over 120 county parks and several nature preserves.

People Encouraging People believes that inequality is detrimental to our employees, our clients, and the communities we serve. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive space for all our employees and extending this culture of belonging into our work. At People Encouraging People, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are integral to our health, mission, vision, and values. We believe that our workforce should reflect the vast diversity of the communities we serve, and that diverse voices should be intentionally elevated and included in our work.

People Encouraging People is proud to be an EEOC and Affirmative Action employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of any protected characteristic, including race, color, genetic information, creed, national origin, religion, sex, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, lawful alien status, ancestry, age, marital status, pregnancy, parental status or protected veteran status and will not discriminate against anyone on the basis of a disability.

An attractive compensation package and benefits await our “ideal” candidate.
