Most Innovative Member Award

Over mhca’s 35-year history, one of the biggest benefits of membership has been the opportunity for members to learn from, and be motivated by, other members. To better recognize our members’ innovative efforts and promote the innovative culture of mhca, we established the Most Innovative Member Award. We look forward to recognizing our Most Innovative Members during our Annual Meeting each year beginning in 2020.

HOW WILL CONTENDERS BE IDENTIFIED?

All members making a presentation during mhca conference sessions throughout the year, either individually or as part of a panel, are eligible for award consideration. We will be showcasing current members’ innovative efforts in a variety of formats at each of our quarterly conferences. Many of these member presentations will be video recorded and made available for viewing under an Innovations tab on the mhca website.

YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS!

Each of the member presentations will be rated by those in attendance via the conference app’s star rating system. Please take the time to rate all the member sessions you attend. One week after each conference, the star ratings form the conference app will be tabulated and averaged.

INNOVATION TASKFORCE

The mhca Board will form an Innovation Taskforce. Following each conference, the Innovation Taskforce members will also rate the innovative merit (not presentation flair) of each member initiative presented by giving it 0-5 stars. The taskforce members’ scores will be consolidated and averaged to determine the taskforce’s rating of that conference’s showcased member initiatives.

Measuring innovation is inherently difficult as it implies commensurability so that comparisons can be made in quantitative terms. Innovation however, by definition, is novelty. Wikipedia states that innovation is viewed as the application of better solutions that meet new requirements, unarticulated needs, or existing market needs. Such innovation takes place through the provision of  more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or business models. More specific to health care, the CMS Health Care Innovation Awards recognized organizations that implemented the most compelling new ideas to deliver better health, improved care and lower costs. A second round of CMS awards focused on new models of workforce development and deployment that efficiently supported service delivery models and enhanced infrastructure that supports more cost-effective performance.

While the Innovation Taskforce’s rankings will not necessarily be based on quantifiable criteria, they will be predicated upon the above notions of what makes an initiative innovative.

FINAL SELECTION

The audience’s rating will be combined with a rating from the Innovation Taskforce to reflect the overall rating for each member presentation. At the end of the year, the 10 highest (overall) rated innovation initiatives will be presented to the Innovation Taskforce. Each taskforce member will rank order the final 10 initiatives. The individual rankings will be combined to produce a final composite ranking. The taskforce will meet one final time to review/discuss the final composite rankings and reach an agreement on the top five Most Innovative mhca Members.
