United Services provides a comprehensive array of treatment and prevention services, with more than 30 programs in 12 different locations, with a dedicated staff of over 250 professionals.

This $20m+ Joint Commission Accredited system offers excellent care to citizens of all ages with behavioral health and addictions needs, provides 24/7 emergency assistance, services addressing domestic violence, Employee Assistance programs to local businesses and organizations, and primary care to its clients.

The Position

The Chief Operations Officer plays an essential role in ensuring USI’s “whole healthcare” delivery system is delivered with an emphasis on its transdisciplinary integrated practices and services. Under the direction of the CEO, this individual will focus on optimizing all community services and workflows through working collaboratively with the leadership on the executive team.

United Services is looking to find a strong and innovative healthcare leader to build upon the wonderful foundation of “whole health” and commitment to wellness, to ensure a culture of clinical excellence that includes both inspiring staff and evaluating clinical processes and programs, all within a context of maintaining its sound business and finance operational integrity. 

The Ideal Candidate

Our “ideal candidate” will:

  • Have programmatic and operational experience in community behavioral health.

  • Possess a strong business acumen with the ability to balance clinical excellence while overseeing fiscally sound services.

  • Possess 5-7 years of leadership/management/supervisory experience in a behavioral health system.

  • Have experience with multi-site, complex and diverse organizations, including those serving residents of rural areas.

  • Have demonstrated a commitment to being a resource to one’s community through such activities as advocacy, prevention initiatives, volunteerism, fund raising.

  • Be able to establish performance goals for each program and department while ensuring they are consistent with USI’s Strategic Plan.

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of, Medicaid, Medicare, Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies’ requirements such as state and local systems of government, SAMHSA, HRSA, and contractual partners.

  • Have demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with leadership teams in identifying, developing, implementing, evaluating, and optimizing integrated service lines.

  • Have experience working in a leadership role with a system providing both behavior health and addictions services in addition to primary care.

  • Have experience working with state/county/Federal government relative to advocacy, contractual relationships, and/or partnerships.

  • Have a track record of collaborating/partnering with other healthcare systems.

  • Have demonstrated success in the area of recruitment and retention of staff; experience in developing training program relationships a plus.

  • Demonstrates inclusive leadership through written, verbal communication and behaviors.

  • Be passionate about serving individuals and families with complex, psychiatric, social, and primary care needs including those historically experiencing health inequities.

  • Have demonstrated an ability to be adaptable, flexible, and comfortable with change in our evolving and dynamic healthcare environment.

  • Be familiar with best practice models of care, innovations and initiatives that might be considered for United Services; experience at identifying new business opportunities.

  • Experience with CCBHCs in some capacity a plus.

  • Working knowledge, comfort level with EHRs as a means to improve efficiencies, employee satisfaction, productivity.

  • Committed to the use of data as part of a decision-making process; outcomes oriented.

  • Have a management philosophy of empowerment with accountability; viewed as being fair, approachable, organized, decisive, and with a sense of humor.

  • Comfortable as a “change agent;” demonstrated success in bringing about change.

  • Possess a graduate degree in healthcare, business, or public health administration.
